OFFICIAL NAME OF THE COUNTRY: Rumania
HISTORY: Rumanians are descended from the ancient Daces who accepted the language and the civilization of the Romans. The state was established in 1861 with the unification of two hegemonies, Vlahia and Moldavia. Until 1878 they were forced to pay tribute to the Turks. Then Rumania was pronounced as an independent state. In 1881 it was pronounced as a reign. During the 1st Balkan war Rumania kept neutrality. But it participated in the 2nd Balkan war with Greece and Serbia against Bulgaria. In the 1st world war it sided with Adad and it was conquered by the Germans in 1917. It was pronounced again as an independent state later in 1920 and achieved important territorial extensions. In 1940 under German pressure surrendered Vessaravia and the north Boukovina to the USSDR, the south Transylvania to Hungary. After that it allied with Germany and took part in the war against Russia (1941-44). After the 2nd world war Rumania co-operated military with the Russians who conquered the country. Rumania became socialistic democracy. After the changes in USSDR and the other socialistic countries of Eastern Europe, Rumania has to face the new challenges and cope with the demands of a new era.
